OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION

The mission of our customer is to help the poor by strengthening the United Nations capacity of governments and other partners to conduct their activities in infrastructure, procurement and project management in a sustainable and efficient manner.

Within these three main areas of expertise, the organization provides its partners transactional services, consulting and implementation for projects ranging from building schools and hospitals in the purchase of goods and services, through the training of local workers. Our client works closely with governments and communities to ensure the economic, social and environmental projects that the organization supports, with particular interest in strengthening national capacity.

GENERAL FUNCTIONS

Role objective:

The role our client is initially in Mali to support the Mission of Peacekeeping (DPKO) in Mali, with a range of projects that will support their work. The aim is to support our partners in their stabilization and development efforts in northern Mali through the peace process. Our client will strive to this task through the implementation of infrastructure projects in northern Mali. For these projects to small and medium scale, our client will be integrated with the mission to provide a complex support program work units.

Our client is looking for qualified candidates for several positions of Project Engineer for the construction and / or rehabilitation of buildings and basic infrastructure.

Expected output:

Under the overall responsibility of the coordinator’s country, and the direct supervision of the Chief Engineer, the Project Engineer assured the following tasks:

Implementation

Responsible for planning, coordination, execution and delivery of lots of physical infrastructure works program

Responsible for choosing the implementation methodology and technical means to use or adapt to each work package

Responsible for the technical monitoring of all the planning, design and execution of works;

Responsible for delays, quality and job management costs responsible for initial assessments potential work packages

Responsible commitments in the procurement process, and the process of contract management that will support and accompany all work

Responsible for the management of committed service contracts with our client to support the work

Manage and reduce the risks associated with work packages of consistent and efficient program

Calculate and track the cost of staff and implementing and maintaining the budget tolerance.

Coordination and Liaison

Being the technical interface, making coordination between our client, partners and stakeholders as required

Technical coordination with Engineers

Coordinate with the system “clusters” of the UN in the humanitarian field (WASH, shelter, logistics etc.)

Project reporting:

Make presentations on the technical aspects of engineering and evaluations as required

Analyse and provide technical evaluations to enable senior management and stakeholders to make informed decisions.

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE

Education:

§ Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and/or Diploma in Engineering.

Work experience:

§ Minimum of 5 years of demonstrable relevant Engineering – Civil experience.

Geographical experience:

§ Minimum of 1 years of experience in Africa with local experience in Bamako is an advantage.

Languages:

§ Fluency in French (essential) and English (desirable).

Key competencies:

Minimum of 5 years of demonstrable relevant engineering – civil experience.

Highly motivated with a positive attitude in teamwork and problem-solving attitude.
